Although satellite Internet access has become much more affordable than it once was, there is always a need to find ways to reduce costs further. There are many areas and often whole villages that do not have any terrestrial broadband access (Not-spots). Internet broadband can be considered as the fifth utility - people without access are at a disadvantage to those that do. More and more activities are only accessible via the Internet. Even the government is starting to make it obligatory for businesses to submit information online (e.g.VAT returns). For many, the ability to work remotely from home has become an essential and is a great enabler for more flexible working and balancing the needs of the family with work.
With satellite broadband Prime Satellite Broadband can provide access to the Internet anywhere. We are not constrained by the closeness of the nearest telephone exchange. Thus we can bring access to the Internet right inside the area requiring service. The satellite Internet access is then shared using wireless links or hard-wired Ethernet links to everyone in the area or village.
With the reduced cost of satellite terminals on the new Ka-band Hylas 1 satellite, the cost of sharing does not reduce the total cost as it did previously, however, a saving can be made. Also, unlike the satellite terminal, the wireless box can be self installed in many cases reducing costs further. Today, Prime Satellite Broadband use the 5GHz band for wireless links. We use a frequency that does not require a license to reduce ongoing costs. 5GHz is more resilient that the WiFi 2.4GHz though it does not reach as far.
