SATELLITE BROADBAND INTERNET IN EUROPE

Via Avanti's standard service packages, Prime Satellite Broadband can deliver Ka-band services to Spain, Portugal, Italy, Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Services starting from April 2011 will range from 2Mbps to 8Mbps with data volume based monthly limits. Note that Hylas 1 does not provide coverage for most of France. This will change with the launch of Hylas 2 in 2012.
Our services are suitable for businesses and residential subscribers. The services offered are based on low to high data volume users. Our EBASIC services are suitable for light to medium users looking to access the internet for web browsing and light email. These support online banking and shopping. For higher data volume users or for businesses where there are several simultaneous users we would recommend the EOFFICE services.
Note that Avanti operate an automatic throttling of services if you go over your monthly data volume limit. These are reset at the start of each calender month. If you go over your limit 3 times in a row or 3 times in a 6 month period then you must upgrade your service. Please see our AUP.
When we extend our VNO services we will change all customer over to our own services on an equivalent basis. We can provide other services via our other partners where Avanti does not provide coverage or your application requires a bespoke service.

Note Voice over IP applications (including Skype) do generally work, however due to the nature of shared broadband links, the quality of service cannot be guaranteed at all times. In general the higher the data rate on the uplink, the higher the quality achieved. As long as enough bandwidth exists then the voice quality over the satellite will be good. We cannot guarantee quality over the path taken over the Internet nor the quality of service provided by the VoIP service provider used. Note that there is latency over the satellite and you will notice a slight delay in the voice signal.
Prime Satellite Broadband can provide you with routed Public IP Addresses on your modem for a monthly cost. This will allow you to remotely manage your router and support applications that require this to work. A subnet of 4 IP addresses (giving 1 fixed Public IP Address) costs £6+VAT per month. A Subnet of 8 IP Addresses costs £12+VAT per month.
